What's the "once-in-a-lifetime" hike you have always wanted to do or the UK adventure you’ve never had a chance to complete? The summer is not over yet - now is our chance to get out, enjoy the changing seasons & push our limits to fight for freedom.
The Challenge
This September, the whole TRIBE community are coming together to rally their tribe and take on a 100km, 42km or 21km walking challenge to help fundraise £10,000 for the TRIBE Hike for Freedom survivors programme. Empowering survivors of modern slavery and exploitation to regain their freedom and independence.
We are looking for 100 members of the TRIBE community to be ambassadors to lead your own team and complete the TRIBE Hike for Freedom. This is how it works:
Step 1. Select your distance (100km, 42km or 21km) and decide if you'll complete it "in full" or as a combined team total.
NB. You can either split the target distance between the team (ie. 16.7 km x 6 = 100km) OR plot a route to complete the full target distance on one day.
Step 2. Rally your tribe (up to six people) to take on the challenge as a team!
Step 3. You plot the route you've always wanted to take on and organise your team for a "once-in-a-lifetime" adventure.
Step 4. Once you set up your team fundraising page via the Hike for Freedom campaign here. We will send you a special “TRIBE Welcome Pack” with enough TRIBE nutrition for all your team and jumper for you as the Team Ambassador.
Step 5. You spread the word amongst your network and work together to reach the team fundraising milestones and redeem extra TRIBE goodies!
- £50 fundraising per person = Limited edition TRIBE Jumper and challenge medal
- £100 fundraising per person = Personalised TRIBE x Ocean Bottle and challenge medal
Step 6. Complete the challenge and share your photos on social to win great bonus prizes! The team with the HIGHEST fundraising total and the greatest impact will receive an EPIC prize bundle including:
- A pair of Merrell walking shoes for each team member
- Arc’teryx Gamma SL Hoody & branded Nalgenes for each team member
- TRIBE Hike for Freedom challenge medal & all the TRIBE goodies above!
All events will raise funds for TRIBE Freedom Foundation to increase awareness of modern slavery and help develop the TRIBE Hike for Freedom: Survivor Fitness & Wellness Programme

Ambassador FAQs
Logistics
Can I choose any date/time to lead my walk?
You can choose any day between Saturday 19th September and Sunday 27th September.
What should I think about when finding a location/meeting point for my event?
To minimise the risk of coronavirus transmission we would suggest meeting your team outdoors and somewhere everyone will be able to come together whilst also maintaining suitable physical distancing. Think about how easy it is for people to get the meeting point and how you can minimise the use of public transport.
What are some of the extra things I should consider when planning the challenge to make sure we complete the challenge in a COVID-safe way
- Think about where you will stop for breaks and lunch, to enable physical distancing.
- Consider alternative routes you could take to avoid unnecessary stiles or narrow footpaths.
- Take care to remind everyone about physical distancing, hygiene measures and any hazards on the route
The Ramblers organisation have a wide range of helpful resources to help plan group walks in a COVID-safe and secure way. You can find their latest guides here.

Who are we fundraising for?
All fundraising will support TRIBE Freedom Foundation. The charity established by the TRIBE community to help end modern slavery in the UK. TRIBE Freedom Foundation works by raising awareness of trafficking and supporting frontline projects to fight modern slavery. We empower the TRIBE community to create an impact.
In September 2019, a group of 15 inspirational female survivors took part in the TRIBE Hike for Freedom: Three Peaks Challenge, in partnership with the Helen Bamber Foundation (read more here). This was the pinnacle of a six-month hiking and training programme which gave the group the opportunity to rediscover their inner strength and recognise their capabilities.
In 2020, the plans were in place to develop and grow the TRIBE Hike for Freedom project as a structured six-month programme of fitness and outdoor activities helping survivors of modern slavery and human trafficking to improve their well-being, regain their independence and freedom through fitness and nature. Although this has been postponed due to COVID-19 we are now celebrating the first of the walks taking place this year and we will be developing the project to grow as planned throughout 2021. By working with multiple project partners, we also aim to increase cross-charity collaboration to enhance wider long term support for survivors of modern slavery.

Team Numbers
Is there a maximum number of people per team?
Outdoors, people from multiple households can currently meet in groups of up to six.
And two households of up to 30 people can meet up. We advise that you stick to teams of six to help with social distancing and to make sure you can stick together as a tribe.
Inevitably there may be slower members of your team so do look after your whole tribe. The most important thing is that everyone gets to the finish line safe, happy and together for a team celebration!
Who is responsible for the challenge?
All participants take part in the challenge at their own risk. Please follow the instructions of the ambassadors and look out for your tribe. We go further and faster, together.
